What to Look for When Hiring a VA

Have you found yourself becoming increasingly busy and missing deadlines? Are you finding that you are unable to provide the level of service your clients require? Do you need an assistant but don’t want the hassle or financial commitment of hiring someone?

Perhaps it is time to consider delegating and outsourcing to a VA. But what should you look for when hiring a VA?

  • The most important thing to consider when sourcing a VA is do you get along? Do you like chatting to this person and would you feel comfortable sharing details about your business with them? It is essential to find someone who has a genuine interest in you and the work you’re doing. Having a genuine connection will allow you both to speak openly and honestly with each other. This will benefit both your business and also the work that that your VA does for you.

  • Seek individuals that have experience in your industry – this can be easily done via social media platforms such as LinkedIn and Instagram. Working with someone who has some understanding the work you do can save you a lot of time and hassle, especially if you would like them to use a particular industry piece of software.

  • It’s very easy to be tempted by individuals who charge very little, but as the saying goes – you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. The average hourly rate for a VA is around £27 per hour. If a potential VA has prices that are considerably less than this then that would be a red flag, and it’s time to look for an alternative.

  • Ensure the individual you hire has the correct insurance and contracts in place. Whilst this may seem an unnecessary step, the last thing you need is to find yourself in a legal battle because there was no contractual agreement, or because you hired a VA who wasn’t insured and has left you to deal with a confidentiality breach.

There are tonnes of excellent and professional VAs out there offering a spectrum of services and skills that can help you to level up your business.

If you’re looking for extra support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’d love to chat!
