My top 5 tips for podcast interviews

Are you about to interview your dream guest on your podcast? How exciting!

And of course, a bit scary too!

So here are some handy tips for you to make sure that you're 100% prepared and raring to go for any podcast interview.

Tip 1 - Research your guests in advance

Do your homework! Find out as much as you can about your guests, but don’t be afraid to ask them if there’s anything they’d especially like to be brought up or asked about.

Tip 2 - Take your time and don’t rush

Remember that mistakes can always be edited out!

Tip 3 - Don’t script it

When it comes to interviewing guests, there is such a thing as being overprepared. Being overprepared for an interview can result in the conversation feeling a little forced and stilted.

It’s a good thing to have a list of prompts on hand - especially if you know there are particular topics you want to bring up with your guest.

But it’s okay if the conversation goes somewhere completely unexpected - this is a good thing!

Tip 4 - Minimise distractions

This is an essential tip for both you and your guests!

So pop your phone on silent, switch all your notifications off, and perhaps most importantly of all, don’t wear jewellery that’s too noisy!

Tip 5 - Get your kit ready!

There is nothing worse than getting stuck into an interview or recording and realising you don’t have everything you need!

No need to go fancy with your podcast kit, just having a good quality USB microphone and headphones will absolutely do the job. Make sure your ears are covered!

Who's your dream podcast guest? I have a list as long as my arm, but I'd love to chat to Grace Dent. What a legend.
